Cloth Diaper 1.0

OK, so I've been mulling over using cloth diapers. You'd think a topic like cloth diapering would be simple, but in this new millennium, cloth diapers aren't like they were when I was a baby. There are so many styles to choose from and an entire new set of vocabulary to learn for the subject. I bought a few different styles and used a couple and have decided on one or two styles I like. The fact that they are expensive to buy prompted me to try my hand at making my own. Here is my first attempt, and although I haven't used it yet to see if it actually works and how I like it, I think it turned out pretty well. I have several fabrics I'm going to try out and I'll try a couple of styles, too, eventually. I don't have much time to do this kind of thing, but with school getting into full swing, hopefully I'll get to do more of this.

Another big moment in the Hudson House

Yummy!

We've had lots of firsts around here...kindergarten, bike riding with no training wheels, shoe tying and now...solid foods for the baby! She wasn't quite sure what to think, but we got some to stay in there. I am hoping it helps her sleep longer at night. It didn't do much good the first night, but she probably didn't really eat enough to make that happen. Hopefully she'll catch on and fill up!

Big Day!

Big Day!
Originally uploaded by The Hudsons
I made it! I only teared up for a moment (a couple of times) and mostly because I passed other crying moms in the hallway at the school! My little boy is growing up and today is his first day at school. I got up early and was waiting with the video camera for his alarm to go off and get a few words from him about starting school, but that did not go well. I think he was just tired. Hopefully Joe will get that video up soon, too (Joe has a lot going on at work and not much free time, but I'll keep reminding him!). Tyler has a friend in class that he has known all his life, so he was excited about that and I know he'll do great. Now I have to get everyone ready for the 'meet and greet' at the preschool for Jonah.

The boys and their model solar system
Originally uploaded by The Hudsons
Over the weekend, Joe helped the boys make a solar system to hang up in the playroom. They had fun and I enjoyed watching Joe get crafty. They did a great job and I feel certain the planets and sun will be hanging in the playroom for a long time to come. Notice the sparkly-ness of the sun! Joe covered it with sequins. Look What Tyler Can Do!

Yesterday Tyler decided he wanted to take the training wheels off his bike. He must have just been ready to ride because it didn't take any time before he was zooming around the culdesac! I made a little video of it, but haven't had Joe add it yet...hopefully soon! He is very excited about his newfound skill and can't get enough of his bike. We went to the greenway today and he rode almost 3 miles!

Look what Mommy can do!

The dress on the left and the top on the right are reversible and tie on the shoulders. These are very basic, but I guess that is where you have to start. My next project is another simple dress that buttons on the shoulders. I have been working on button holes and I think I have it down to where I will take the chance to make something that I have to put button holes on. I also want to try some bloomers. My mom says if I can make these pants, I can do the bloomers, too, so I guess we'll see!

Our Cutie!
Originally uploaded by The Hudsons
Things are great here at the Hudson house. We've been to the beach and took a road trip to Texas (which was pleasantly and surprisingly not nearly as awful a car trip as I anticipated!). We've had company and doctor visits and just life in general to keep us busy. I've tried to fit in some sewing and bow-making (just give me a girl and apparently I get all girly!). I'm also sort of training for a mini-triathalon that will be in October with some friends and my mom. I say 'sort of training' because there is no way to train properly with the rest of our lives as busy as they are! Berkeley is 4 months old today and we can hardly believe it. We are getting ready for school to start. Tyler has his kindergarten assessment next week and then a couple weeks after that school starts. Jonah will be in preschool 3 days a week, leaving me some one on one time with Berkeley. I'll be glad to get into a routine! Sadly, though, that will mean the pool will be closing and we've enjoyed going there this summer. I've added some pictures to our Flickr page, so click over there to the right to see all our pictures from the summer.
