So today I completed a sprint triathlon with a little longer distances than the one I did last year. It was my goal for the year. I had planned on doing one called 'She Rox' which is an all-woman race where they give you jewelry when you cross the finish line (great motivator, huh!) but it didn't come to Charlotte this year and the closest location was Philadelphia. For a minute I considered going there for it since I have a really good friend who lives there, but then I decided it would be really difficult to get my bike there and was a lot of trouble for a race! Anyways, this one was in Florence, SC. Just Joe, Jonah and I went. Tyler is camping with my dad and Berkeley....well, it was just a lot easier to leave her here with my mom! Mom was willing to go, too, for support, but we decided she would be more help keeping Berkeley with her. The race was a 700 meter open water swim (which was the first time I've done open water swimming), 25K bike and 5 K run. I did well on the swim (ranked 17th out of 71 women, held my own on the bike (ranked 50-ish) but then lost all hope of kicking butt on the run (ranked somwhere is the 60s). That doesn't surprise me - I didn't run AT ALL to prepare! I did aerobics at the Y and called it good enough. The good news is that I finished well before the cut off time of 2 1/2 hours (my time was 1 hour, 55 minutes) and more importantly (to me!) WASN'T last!!! Needless to say, I can hardly walk tonight, but I DID IT!!! Jonah cheered for me so well and so loud that people on other parts of the course began to recognize me and cheer, "Go, Mommy, go!" when I went by! After the race, Moe's provided tacos and nachos and a local massage school had students there to massage the racers! Excellent! Now, I think I'll take at least a week off to rest! Check out all the pictures - Joe did an excellent job documenting the race.

This is so awesome and inspiring Sarabeth! Great job! I love looking at the pictures - it looks like you had a fun time, but it seems so hard too! My goal for the year is to finish the Ramblin' Rose without making a fool of myself!
