A pretty good day....

Friday, April 18, 2008

So not too much has changed today, but I feel like we didn't back track and the doctor made me feel positive about what is going on. Berkeley's bili-levels went down a tiny bit (from 14.2 to 13.5). The doctor thinks it is possible her levels peaked and have started to go down - I think that happens about a week or so after birth generally. The lights will help that happen, too. I have been reassured that once those levels go down, she won't be quite so lethargic and will begin to be a better eater. Once she eats better for some yet undetermined amount of time and gains weight, we can go home! The doctor (who I love, by the way) thinks she'll be ready to let me try to nurse Berkeley again tomorrow. I'm excited about that because I feel that I've been missing out on some of the bonding between mom and baby when I have to have the hospital gown on - I'll be able to hold her close and get that skin to skin contact that is so important. I did get out of the hospital briefly today to run over to the store to buy a new car seat. They will test her out in it before they send me home. Apparently with preemies, they need to make sure they fit properly and don't have any respiratory issues in a car seat that is really made for bigger babies. Buying a car seat was one of the many things on my "Do Before Baby" list.

As far as the boys, they are home with Daddy this weekend and all 3 of them are excited to have a low key 'Boys Weekend' together. I'm sure there will be lots of wrestling and sword fighting! Thank goodness I have my girl now that I can find new ways to play. I'm just not that into wrestling! Thankfully Joe is a good wrestler with them.
